Dear Friends,
I am writing to you because I am seeking your support for the NDP nomination in New Westminster-Coquitlam-Port Moody. I am currently serving my third term as a city councillor in New Westminster. While on council, I have been a strong advocate for issues like affordable housing, childcare and the environment.
I have also served as a board member for Metro Vancouver and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, where I have fought for local issues affecting our communities. Before entering politics, I was a teacher in the riding for 35 years and served on the British Columbia Teachers' Federation Provincial Status of Women Committee. I have my Masters Degree in Administration. One of my proudest accomplishments is the Canadian Harambee Education Society, which I founded 25 years ago. The society has helped thousands of girls in East Africa receive an education that otherwise would not have been possible. For that, I was awarded the Governor General's Meritorious Service Medal.
I am a long time member of the NDP, and was inspired to become involved with the party by Rosemary Brown. I am a member because of the party’s social platform and the party’s efforts to see greater participation of woman in government.
The NDP has always been the party that has fought for social justice and now, more than ever, we have to fight for the people. Issues like employment insurance, childcare, housing, and the environment are my top priorities and as your Member of Parliament I would ensure that these issues receive the attention they deserve.
I am a tireless worker and would be honoured to be your representative in Ottawa.
In solidarity,
Lorrie Williams
